Il s’agissait en l’occurrence de baptiser cette piste du nom de « La Dérup’ » choisi récemment par le Comité d’Organisation qui tenait ainsi à mettre en évidence sa principale caractéristique – sa forte déclivité – comme le précise le communiqué de presse réalisé à ce sujet avant les courses de la semaine dernière (voir lien…)
Trois personnalités éminentes et directement concernées par les épreuves de Champéry se sont donc retrouvées à l’arrivée de la piste à mi-journée samedi pour couper le traditionnel ruban.
Il s’agissait de MM. Antoine Fardel, collaborateur économique au Service cantonal de la promotion touristique et économique, Raymond Monay, Directeur Télé Champéry –Crosets Portes du Soleil SA, Co-Président du Comité d’Organisation (ACCMMTB) et Stéphane Coutaz, Président de ce Comité d’Organisation (ACCMMTB).
Dans un an, la même piste sera également utilisée à l’occasion des Championnats du Monde MTB de l’UCI prévus pour la fin du mois d’août 2011.

Inauguration of the « Dérup’ » downhill run at the « Grand Paradis » area in Champéry.
A few minutes prior the start of the downhill races of the recent World Cup competitions at Champéry, leading members of the Organizing Committee of the Swiss UCI MTB event officially inaugurated the downhill course built four years ago by a group of passionate experts and already used twice in past years at the occasion of major UCI events.
At that occasion, the Champéry downhill run received the name of “La Derup’ ” that has been chosen a few weeks ago by the Organizing Committee which wished to put in evidence the main characteristic of that very steep and challenging track that was accurately described in the press release given to the media afterwards (see link...)
On Saturday Huly 24th , three top personalities strongly involved in the Champéry UCI event met at the arrival of the course a mid-day to cut the traditional ribbon stretched across the run. They were Mr. Antoine Fardel, in charge of the cantonal economic service of Valais in matters of touristic and business development, Raymond Monay, Director of Télé Champéry –Les Crosets-Portes du Soleil SA and Vice-President of the Organizing Committee (ACCMMTB) and Stéphane Coutaz, President of the Organizing Committee (ACCMMTB).
Next year, that course will also host the 2011 UCI MTB World Championships scheduled at the end of the month of August.
